Maria Szymanowska (* December 14. 1789 Warsaw – † July 24. 1831 Petersburg) pianist and composer. One of the first women and virtuosos who took up composition professionally. Her creative output includes nearly one hundred works. Piano works are of the greatest importance: mazurkas, polonaises, waltzes, nocturnes and etudes.
